Let’s mix it!

3 Lessons Lower Secondary ★ Medium
Share:

Students become creative musicians themselves and take their first steps with the music production software BandLab.

Topic & Bridge

‘Cosmopolita’ by ClassiXX@NOW combines Dvořák and Pop Music. Its individual tracks become material for students’ own ideas.

Activity

Change the tempo and key, cut and add tracks, then compose an original 30-second song.

Added value

Students hear for themselves how tempo, key and layers change a piece of music, and create music of their own.

n a first lesson, students work through a series of guided steps that build on each other and get to know the basics of BandLab, for example by changing the tempo or key of a section of ‘Cosmopolita’ and describing how this changes the piece.

In a further lesson, they make music as independently as possible: they rework the section musically, add instruments and their own recordings, or remove individual layers. Finally, they present their pieces to the class.
